Jawahr Al Khleej Jewellery

Welcome to Jawahir Al-Khaleej’s gold market update for Wednesday August 5. Gold has risen for a third straight day, now near $4,130 per ounce — its highest in about two weeks — as the whole region awaits news that could prove historic: Washington says a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could come today or tomorrow. For our customers across Iraq, this is a week to watch closely, with gold both rising in value and standing guard as it always has. Here is our clear and friendly guide.

Today’s prices:

24K: ~$132.80/gram | 22K: ~$121.75/gram | 21K: ~$116.20/gram | 18K: ~$99.60/gram

What is happening? Two big stories at once. First, the chance of a US interest rate rise in September has dropped sharply — from 81% to about 57% in a week — and that always helps gold. Second, the US-Iran standoff has reached a decisive moment: the US Treasury Secretary says a Hormuz deal could come “today or tomorrow,” while President Trump has issued stern warnings if talks fail. Iran says its talks are only with Oman. For Iraq, whose economy depends on that waterway, a real deal would be wonderful news — restoring the oil exports that fund the nation.

Why does gold rise on both hope and worry? Because gold protects in either direction. If peace comes, interest rates are likely to stay lower, which lifts gold. If conflict returns, people buy gold for safety. That double protection is exactly why Iraqi families have trusted gold for generations — and why it has climbed three days running while the news hangs in the balance.

What this means for you: Gold is about 26% below its January record. A 50-gram gold necklace costs approximately $2,358 less than at that peak — still good value, though about $98 more than on Monday. If a peace deal lands, analysts expect gold to head toward $4,500 to $4,900 by year-end.

Designs worth exploring: The styles defining 2026 include lightweight everyday pieces like delicate pendants and slim chains, thin stackable 22K bangles for a personalised wrist stack, coloured gemstones such as sapphires and emeralds in simple gold settings, and sculptural, flowing gold shapes. Silver is also shining this week — lovely for mixed-metal looks.

Our welcoming guidance:

For weddings, engagements, and gifts: with prices rising and big news possible at any hour, choosing your piece sooner is wise.

For those building a collection: buying before any deal-driven rise means better value on every piece.

For long-term savers: the world’s central banks bought 244 tonnes of gold in the first quarter, and big funds in China keep buying — the most careful institutions on earth share your trust in gold.

For patient buyers: Friday’s US jobs report could briefly pull prices back if it is strong — buying part now and part after Friday is a balanced approach.

A note of balance: This is a fast-moving week for the region and the market. Please confirm the live price with us before purchasing.

Gold near $4,130 is up about 21.6% compared to a year ago — a reminder of the lasting value Iraqi families have always known. Jawahir Al-Khaleej is delighted to welcome you, and we join all of Iraq in hoping these decisive days bring the peace and reopened waters our region deserves.
